Last Year's League Champions, A Look Back: Region 3

The second in a series looking back on last season's league champions.


Chester County

Downingtown qualified as the league's first regional participant by way of their regular season title.  Spring City won the league's postseason tournament.  Spring City ended up going winless in the regional tournament while Downingtown swept their way into the title and the state tournament.

Postseason league tournaments gear up across the state this week, so we thought we'd take some time to take a look back at which teams represented their league in state regionals last season.  First up, Region 2.

Schuylkill-Berks Playoff Update

With thirteen teams remaining in the league, the Schuylkill-Berks League has adopted a somewhat modified playoff format.  The league's top three teams have received byes in Wednesday's commencement of double elimination action.  Muhlenberg (South 1), Southern Area (North 1), and Tamaqua (North 2) will await the results of five best of three series that run this weekend.

Legion Baseball Rescinds Updated Age Eligibility Rule

As you may have heard, several years ago the national legion rule's committee adopted a new eligibility rule that prohibited the use of college freshmen on legion baseball teams beginning in 2015.  Earlier this season, that rule change was officially rescinded.  Any player who has not turned 19 years old before January 1st is eligible to participate in that summer's legion baseball season.



West Mifflin Keeps On Rolling

Last season, the only thing that could stop West Mifflin's march to a Region 6 title and state tournament berth was perennial regional power Blackhawk and the state's top pitcher, Brendan McKay.  Though they finished one win shy last year, this year's squad appears poised to build on that past success.

A History Of National Champions

American Legion Baseball has crowned a national champion eighty-six times since 1926, every year in that span besides 1927 when no national tournament took place.  Pennsylvania is home to three national champions: Boyertown in 1982 and 1987 and Yardley in 1996.  Interestingly enough, Boyertown topped Yardley in the state championship that year.

Did You Know? Past Tournament Archive

We'd like to take the time to spotlight an interesting feature of the site.  We have archived postseason tournament information and results since the inception of the site in 2010.  Under the postseason tab you can find state regional, state tournament, national regional, and World Series brackets and results for 2010, 2011, 2012, and 2013.

We are pleased to announce that www.palegionball.com will be providing live streaming radio coverage of the 2014 Pennsylvania State Legion Baseball Tournament from Boyertown. Day 1 Live Coverage Schedule

The 2013 Pennsylvania American Legion Baseball State Championship Tournament commences on Tuesday morning at Bear Stadium. The tournament will feature seven regional champions, and the host Boyertown, a regional runner-up.

Zach Eddinger was not charged with a run in nine innings of work, and rode a big four-run first inning to a 6-3 win over North Parkland in the first round of the Region 2 American Legion playoffs.
