Towanda defeated Troy 11-2 Friday evening to advance to today's final four in the Bradford-Tioga League Playoffs. They will meet Wellsboro in one semifinal, with Athens set to play in the other semifinal. Athens awaits the winner of Wyalusing and Canton in that game. The four team playoff field has been set in Region Five's District 15 League. The league, which comprises the state's northeast corner, will begin with two semifinal series. The Hawley Toros have claimed the top seed following a doubleheader sweep of Hamlin on the regular season's last day. In 2011, the Wyoming Valley League was the strongest in the Region Five Postseason. League members Plains and Back Mountain ran through the Regional Tournament at Bloomsburg, finishing as the top two teams. District 11, which is located in Northeast Pennsylvania, begins play on June 2nd. The league is comprised of nine Scranton area teams and the top six will make the playoffs. Last year Green Ridge won the league title and finished with a 2-2 record at the regional tournament. Top seed Jersey Shore leads a six team field as the West Branch League Playoffs begin this evening. Jersey Shore and second seed Hughesville will receive byes to the second round of the double elimination tournament. The playoffs will consist of two best of three rounds, with the higher seed in each matchup getting homefield advantage in two of the three games. Tonight, four seed South Scranton will visit undefeated regular season champion West Scranton at Bataglia Field. Region 5 fans will notice a slight change in the teams that make up the Wyoming Valley League this summer. Plymouth-Grontkowski, which has enjoyed a good deal of success in northeast Pennsylvania the past several years, will officially change legion post sponsorships. The team will now represent Swoyersville Post 644 which is located about ten minutes northeast of their former sponsor.

Spring City bounced back to top Danville in game five of the 2010 PA Legion Championship Tournament Wednesday morning by a final score of 11-2.
Danville has been eliminated, while Spring City advances to game ten tomorrow afternoon, where they'll take on the loser of Boyertown-Hopewell.

In the first of many exciting games on day one of the tournament, region two champion Pennridge held on and staved off a late Danville rally to win 5-4.
Danville was down two entering the ninth, when they rallied four two runs. Despite having the tying run in scoring position with nobody out, they were unable to push the runner across for the equalizer.

Region Five Tournament play kicked off this morning at Mountaintop with District 11 representative Valley View defeating Wyoming Valley champion Greater Pittston 5-1. Greater Pittston will try to stay alive Sunday in Game 5, while Valley View moves on in the Winner's Bracket to Sunday's Game 7.
